Wild & Scenic Red River Celebration (50th/25th Anniversary)
September 15, 2018 @ 9:30 am - 10:00 pm
2018 marks the 50th Anniversary of the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act and the 25th Anniversary of the Red River receiving the invaluable designation that put an end to the dam struggle that began in the 60s. This event is to celebrate this milestone for free-flowing Red River, one of our unique Kentucky treasures. The event benefits local non-profit watershed group, Friends of Red River, who works to clean up the Red River, educate the public about clean water, and create more access to the Red (restore, protect, and celebrate our waterways)!
Come for part of the day or for the whole thing!
Wild and Scenic Red River Celebration on September 15
Check in at Red River Adventure @ 9, launch boats at 10. 1-2 mile paddle +short hike with U.S.Forest Service-Daniel Boone National Forest, Kentucky Waterways Alliance, Friends of Red River and more! Paddle distance is dependent on water levels with a portage and short hike to the suspension bridge and/or Jump Rock (wear your swimsuits!). Expect to be off the water no later 2pm. Bring your own water, lunch, sunscreen, etc. Due to (most likely) low water levels at this time of year, kayaks are needed (not canoes) unless there is a good rain within a few days of 9/15. DON”T LET ACCESS TO A BOAT DETER YOU! Paddle registration by 9/10: https://kwalliance.org/wild-and-scenic-float/
